Towards the end of the Spring semester, my students at ODLHA were working on an extensive poetry unit with the help of several fabulous artists (James B. Golden, Ryan Nance, and Sean Hill). In the process, they were able to create a poetry anthology of over 300 pages. At the beginning of the unit, students could not whine enough. "Poetry? Ugh, miss. That's so boring." When I told them that as a collective they had created more than 900 works, they were floored with smiles from ear to ear. I'd like to share it with all of you. Below is the result from my English 10 (American Lit) students.
In addition, several of my students were double blocked in a course designed for students below a 6th grade reading level. They completed a unit specific to Tupac Shakur and "A Rose That Grew from Concrete". They too complete an anthology of over 700 works. That book will be ready shortly.
Video and photos coming soon.
